Mining and Exploration in Western Australia

Western Australia is one of the world’s pre-eminent mining jurisdictions, with a storied mining and exploration history, beginning with the Kalgoorlie gold rush in the 1890’s. Today, WA is one of the world’s largest exporters of raw materials such as iron ore, gold, lithium, copper, lead, and zinc.

The mining and exploration industry makes a critical contribution to WA’s economy. More than 125,000 people are employed within the sector, and royalty payments account for approximately 20% of the states revenue each year. Further, over one billion dollars is invested in mineral exploration on a yearly basis.
