What’s been happening in the Top End?

August 24, 2023

Anyone who lives in the Kimberley region or is lucky enough to visit knows there is always plenty to do. The Top End is as vibrant as it is diverse, and this year’s packed calendar of Kimberley events proves it.

Recent highlights from the Kununurra events calendar

Boab Metals Ord Valley Muster

The 2023 Boab Metals Ord Valley Muster was a huge success, with over 20,000 people attending over nine days and nights. With a diverse program of 30+ events spanning music, arts and culture, food, nature experiences and guided tours, the entire Kimberley region was abuzz for the Muster.

As the festival’s naming sponsor, we were thrilled to see so many from near and far soaking in everything this vibrant region offers.

Kununurra Picture Gardens celebrates its Diamond Jubilee

KPG, or Kununurra Picture Gardens, has been entertaining families in the Kimberley region for generations. The 100% volunteer-run and 100% community-owned outdoor cinema opened its gates in 1963, which makes this its 60th year in operation.

That’s something to celebrate!

KPG held a week-long film festival in June with special screenings to represent every decade the cinema has operated.

This year’s season runs until November (weather permitting), with a mix of new releases, classic films and Australian indie flicks. Visit the KPG website to see the program or sign up as a volunteer.

51st annual Kununurra Agricultural Show

Visitors from all over the Kimberley region flocked to the Kununurra Agricultural Society Showgrounds in July for the annual Kununurra Agricultural Show.

Over two busy days, the showgrounds hosted a huge range of family-friendly events, competitions, entertainment and exhibitions. From the watermelon eating contest to equestrian dressage and the always-entertaining hay stacking challenge, the 51st instalment was a true celebration of the region’s agricultural community.

Boab Metals is proud to be a Silver Sponsor of the Kununurra Agricultural Show.

Kununurra Sun turns one

From half-centuries to first birthdays, the Kununurra Sun also celebrated a milestone this year when the publication launched its 12th monthly issue.

It might be “Kununurra’s newest publication”, but the Kununurra Sun has quickly become a favourite in the Top End since launching in April 2022. Every issue is filled with superb stories and incredible photography that captures the feeling of life in the Kimberley region.

Boab Metals signed on as a sponsor to help the Sun keep shining, and you can help out by picking up some great merch from the KNX Sun webshop.

Teach Learn Grow visited the East Kimberley

A team of dedicated Teach Learn Grow volunteers spent a week inspiring a love for learning at East Kimberley College in June. The visit was such a hit that 6WR radio invited the team for an interview.

Teach Learn Grow is a not-for-profit initiative providing a much-valued service in remote and rural schools, offering free one-on-one maths tutoring and mentoring to kids experiencing educational disadvantage.

As an Impact Partner, Boab Metals supports Teach Learn Grow to provide this service in the East Kimberley region.

Boab Metals has also been busy

Now that field season has commenced, Boab Metals (ASX: BML) has sprung into action, with Phase VII drilling off to a great start. We expect assays from this current phase of drilling during late Q3 2023.

As we make progress towards a Decision to Mine at our flagship Sorby Hills Project, you can follow all the news on the Boab Metals blog or look for announcements posted to our investor centre.
